Hello beautiful human,
Once again, Monday brings with it our weekly Call to (Inter) (Inner) Action, our Mission Possible…a chance to reach beyond our limited scope, when we walk a little wider into the world or dive a little deeper into the green depths of mind, in order to connect to a world larger than ourselves and just slightly beyond our human-shaped understandings.
Who am I fooling. I don’t have to go anywhere to find that. My day to day existence every day of the week is beyond my rational understanding these days. I was talking to my partner about what I think future directions might be and he asked me, Two years ago could you have foreseen where you are now? Not at all. Not. At. All. I freely admit the role of surprise, serendipity, and unforeseen event in moving us through the world.
That’s why we’re here each Monday. To wake up those connections beyond our reach, outside our human scope to determine. To nose into our intuition. To remember how to check in with our gut. Each week, I hope we can find a way to remember that we are part of something so much larger than our individual selves. We’re not really individual at all, are we. From the colonies of bacteria in our guts to the communities we traverse to the stars that wheel over our heads day and night, whether we see them or not, we’re interconnected, part of vast networks and interstitchings.
But back out of all that vastiness to the particular. I woke up this morning thinking about rain. Maybe because the early morning sky appeared overcast. Maybe because we’ve had so much rain this season and everything is green and lush and full. Some rains are so light you can walk through them and not get wet. Some rains are so heavy the gutters give out and the storm drains fail. Some rains last all day, a steady tap and patter on the roofs and windows, inviting cups of tea, books, and extra blankets. Some rains are so local you can see the edge of it and step in and out walking home.
Water wants to move. Rain brings with it change and shift, whatever that might mean for us. Rain brings gifts. Some gifts are harder than others.
Maybe you have a memory associated with any of the kinds of rain I mentioned above. Maybe rain brings with it a certain feeling or energy for you. Maybe when you close your eyes you can feel that rainy weather on the inside, with its gift and invitation.
Here’s this week’s Mission Possible:
Rain Dance
Today, whatever the weather outside your window, connect to rain. The role it plays in your life, in your location. Find your emotional connection to rain, and where that lives in your body. Put on a favorite song about rain, or listen to a track of recorded rain. Where does rain lead you? Water wants to move, always. Where does this morning’s rain dance take you?
Mission: Possible. But if you want the theme music from that other kind of mission to inspire you, here you go.
Don’t be afraid to go beyond the original Mission Possible. Follow your inclinations and inspirations and see what arises… Let the week take you playfully where it will, if you will.
After last summer’s drought I can’t have bad feelings no matter how much rain we get this year. The plants are thriving (except the ones the rabbits eat). Everything grows lush and full. The insects love it too and the mosquito population in my back yard is beginning to bring in the dragonflies. I know it’s true water wants to move, and I feel some of that restlessness within myself. Rain reminds me to let it be easy. There is a cycle to all things, even water. Let it happen in its own time. Accept the gifts that come. Relax into flow.
Today’s invitation: If you don’t love my Mission Possible above, if you don’t feel inspired by it, there’s always the option to invent another one for yourself. Find some small step or act here at the start of the week that can take you just slightly outside of your usual rounds and routines. Follow your nose out into the day and through the hours and keep awake for the assignment. It might surpise you.
Looking to grow the connection and the energy? Here are some possibilities:
Your attention and time are the true gifts. Thank you. xoS
