Hello beautiful human,
I slept a beautiful nearly twelve hours last night. Truly one of life’s great gifts is a good night of sleep. A long nap is also nice, one of those that you wake from in a daze and wander around the place asking what time it is.
I could write about how most of us don’t get enough sleep and why that might be—I started to write that, then realized it wasn’t really what I want to write this morning.
I just want to sip my coffee and gaze out the window at the brightening sky and think how nice it is to be here, waking up with you. I want to enjoy the animal pleasure of a well rested body for a few minutes before the day pulls at me.
The window reports no great news outside, no robins or other birds checking in, no squirrels, no humans walking their dogs or cherries and berries flashers of emergency vehicles. Garbage day was yesterday so not even the optimistic line up of refuse bins, cheerfully waiting for the trucks to take at least some of our unwanteds away.
It’s a quiet morning on a quiet street and I’m glad and lucky to be here.
And as I type that sentence a pick up truck rumbles by and sure as shooting one of the local robins appears and hops up to the fence. The world is astir. Another adventure awaits us.
The sky has turned a lovely blue and a single cloud floats by on its cottony path. The older and I have a discussion scheduled for this morning before work and weekend take us away. It’s such a privilege and joy to have a chance to connect with my children as they grow into the adults they will be. I might occasionally grumble about socks found in the couch cushions and spilled soup on the table but I know I’ll never regret these years of learning to co-habitate as housemates.
Today’s invitation: What small and simple pleasure are you experiencing today? Could you take an extra moment or three, simply to enjoy and breathe into it?
